A Notice of Assessment (NOA) is an official document from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) that verifies your filing obligations. It summarizes your tax return, including your income, deductions, credits, and the amount of tax you owe or will receive as a refund. You should review your NOA carefully to ensure all information is correct.
By the end of February, you should receive most of your tax slips, including T4 (employment income), T5 (investment income), T3 (trust income), and others. If you haven't received your slips by early March, contact your employer or financial institution. You can also access your tax slips through CRA My Account.
You can make payments to the CRA through several methods: online banking (most Canadian banks allow CRA payments), CRA My Payment portal using a debit card, or through third-party payment providers. You can also pay by cheque or money order mailed to the CRA. Setting up pre-authorized debit payments is also an option for regular installments.
Yes, you can apply for relief from interest and penalties through the CRA's Taxpayer Relief Program. If you're experiencing financial hardship or extraordinary circumstances prevented you from meeting your tax obligations, you can submit an application through CRA My Account or by mailing a completed RC4288 form to your tax centre.
The CRA will never send emails asking for personal or financial information. They will never reveal confidential taxpayer information via email. If you receive a suspicious email, do not click any links or provide any personal information. Always verify communications by logging into your CRA My Account on the official secure server. You can report phishing attempts to the CRA.
You can set up direct deposit through your CRA My Account by going to your Profile and selecting Direct Deposit. Alternatively, you can complete form T1-DD and submit it to the CRA. You can also enroll through your financial institution's online banking. Direct deposit ensures you receive your refunds and benefit payments faster.
